Celebrate Erie 2008

Celebrate Erie 2008

Message from the Mayor

Joseph E. Sinnott, Mayor

The time has come once again to “Celebrate Erie!” This year we have another exciting lineup throughout the weekend that offers a great variety of activity, food, entertainment, and fun.

There is something for everyone in this celebration.  “Taste of Erie,” beginning Thursday evening, showcases some of Erie’s finest restaurants.  The Kid’s Zone is packed with family friendly games and activities. State Street from 4th to 12th will be closed, making way for the celebration to continue safely and into the night. Be sure to check out the famous “Chalkwalk,” a visit from nationally known “Flumpa and Friends” in the Kid’s Zone, the Rope Warrior, The Skyriders appearing again this year, and so much more. The Taste of Erie Gazebo in Perry Square will host many of Erie’s favorite jazz performers.  The RockErie stage will surely provide great entertainment for those following local bands. And the CelebrateErie Main Stage will welcome oldies and Motown Friday night with “Souled Out”, world-famous Foreigner Saturday night, and country great, Neal McCoy Sunday.

This celebration would not be possible without the tremendous support of our sponsors and dedicated volunteers, committed to this event and all that it means to celebrate who we are. I would personally like to thank our major sponsors, Giant Eagle and St. Vincent Health Center, as well as all the businesses and individuals that make this event so spectacular.

I am proud to be the Mayor of such an extraordinary community. Let’s take some time to celebrate all that we are! Enjoy the weekend!

Mayor Joe Sinnott
